What is NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian government initiative that provides funding and support to people with permanent or significant disabilities, helping them build independence, improve daily living skills, and participate more fully in their community. Through personalised plans, the NDIS covers a wide range of supports — including therapies, daily living assistance, community participation, assistive technologies, and home support services — ensuring every participant receives care tailored to their unique goals, needs, and circumstances.
Benefits of Registering with the NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is one of Australia’s most significant initiatives supporting people living with disability. With millions of Australians navigating daily challenges related to physical, intellectual, sensory, psychosocial, or developmental disabilities, the NDIS offers a life-changing opportunity to access the supports they need to thrive.
As a committed NDIS provider, MalagaCare is proud to be part of a system that gives individuals more choice, control, and personalised care. Every day, we see how the NDIS enhances participants’ independence, opens new pathways for learning and social connection, and ensures people receive support that aligns with their long-term goals.
The NDIS is not just a funding model — it is a movement that focuses on improving lives, strengthening communities, and ensuring every person has the right to dignity, opportunity, and inclusion.

HOW THE NDIS IMPROVES QUALITY OF LIFE
The NDIS provides Australians living with disability the opportunity to access essential supports that directly enhance daily life. This may include personal care, therapy services, mobility assistance, community participation, home modifications, assistive technology, and skill-building programs that promote long-term independence. By tailoring each plan to the individual, the NDIS ensures funding goes toward what matters most — meaningful progress, stability, and improved quality of life.
Through a combination of personalised planning and ongoing support, participants gain access to services that help them achieve their goals, whether it’s building social confidence, improving mobility, finding employment, or maintaining daily routines more easily. The NDIS also gives families and carers peace of mind, knowing their loved one receives professional, structured assistance designed around their needs.
At MalagaCare, we work closely with participants to help them understand their plans, navigate available supports, and make informed choices. We are privileged to witness how the NDIS transforms lives by empowering people to pursue independence, community connection, and opportunities that once felt out of reach.
NDIS Eligibility Requirements
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides vital support for Australians living with a permanent and significant disability. To access the scheme, individuals must meet specific eligibility requirements set by the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency). These requirements help determine who can receive funded supports to enhance independence, wellbeing, and community participation.
At MalagaCare, we guide individuals and families through the eligibility process, helping you understand what is required and how to prepare your access request. Our team works alongside you to ensure you feel confident and informed at each step of the journey.
If you’re unsure whether you meet the NDIS criteria, we’re here to help you explore your options and understand what documentation or assessments may be needed.
UNDERSTANDING NDIS ELIGIBILITY & NEXT STEPS
Determining your eligibility for the NDIS begins with assessing whether your disability is permanent, significantly impacts your daily life, and requires ongoing support. If you meet these criteria and are under 65 with appropriate residency status, you can lodge an access request with the NDIA.
To apply, you can call 1800 800 110 to make an access request or complete the NDIS Access Request Form and email it to NAT@ndis.gov.au. During this process, you will be asked to confirm your identity and provide consent for the NDIA to collect relevant information. You may also need to provide documentation that outlines how your disability affects your daily activities, including reports or letters from your healthcare practitioner.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, the NDIA will assess your application and determine whether you qualify for funded supports through the NDIS. At MalagaCare, we assist participants with understanding the process, preparing supporting information, and connecting with services that match their needs once they are approved.
Our team is here to help you navigate the eligibility pathway, answer your questions, and ensure you feel supported throughout your NDIS journey.
